Reports confirmed that Fabricio Coloccini will also be very happy when Newcastle United will get to achieve the qualification for European football. But for the footballer, the football club must be also very prepared for it so it can make the most out of it. And it will be, but may not also happen too soon.

Coloccini said: “I don’t know about Europe next year. It is too early to talk about Europe – we need to keep going and keep working and then we will see. First of all we have to build the foundations at this club. I would prefer to leave the Europa League for the year after next – not next year. I think we need to build a good team, a good squad – that is the biggest priority for us. If we qualify, but we do not have the right squad, it could be one year in Europe and then back to where we were before. If we do it right then we could qualify every year.”

According to the reports, Coloccini will also be very glad when Newcastle United will have the qualification for European football also because of him really helping the football club to. And he will also really try to be there and just do well to help the football club. He will be around and deliver for Newcastle United to also succeed. And he will get to with him having some good people behind him. He will have what he will really need to be able to help the football club just be successful.

Coloccini said: “I always knew my capacity and what I could do. I was not worried when things did not happen straight away but, to be honest, I never expected it to be this good. I am enjoying it more than ever at Newcastle.”

The two teams have now been decided for the 2010/2011 UEFA Europa League Final and the two teams have never been closer being less than 50k apart. The two clubs, Braga and Porto, are indeed from the same country and both will appear on May 18 in Dublin at the Dublin Arena to see who can prevail. This contest will break the previous set record from PSV Eindhoven and KV Mechelen in 1988. They faced one another in the UEFA Super Cup of two legs with Mechelen taking the first 3-0 victory then traveling to Eindhoven just 83.8k away for the second leg.

But it is AC Milan and Parma FC that hold the current record for the shortest distance between the two final teams residing within the same country. Both Italian clubs that are only 115.6k from one another appeared against each other in the 1993 UEFA Super Cup.

The Final this year is the ninth time that two clubs will meet that are less than 200k from one another. Two of those previous eight times include two Italian meetings – UC Sampdoria vs. Milan in 1990 for the UEFA Super Cup and Milan vs. Juventus in 2003 for the Champions League Final.

How They Got Here

The Europa League semi-finals saw Benfica defeating Braga 2-1 in the first leg but Braga won in the second leg 1-0. The aggregate was 2-2 between the two teams and Braga ended up getting the push with away goals. Porto defeated Villarreal in the first leg 5-1 but Villarreal bounced back in the second leg with a 3-2 win. Despite Villarreal’s late win, Porto won with 4-7 aggregate to advance to the Dublin Final 2011.

Prior Encounters

These two clubs have never played against one another in Europe. However, in domestic football, the two clubs have met 131 times with 92 victories going to Porto and only 17 for Braga with a total of 22 draws. The two clubs have played one another in two Portuguese Cup finals in which Porto won both – 1-0 and 3-1 in 1977 and 1988 respectively.

In the last three meetings for Porto, they have prevailed conceding three goals but scoring nine. It was in September 2009 when Braga last triumphed with a home victory of 1-0, which is the club’s sole win against Porto in their previous nine contests.

Looking at finals, Porto triumphed in 15 out of 27 Portuguese Cup Finals and will appear in yet another on May 22 when they play Vitória SC. In 26 Portuguese Super Cups, Porto have prevailed for 17 of them. They have also participated in nine finals for the UEFA competition losing three but achieving victory in six.

Braga, on the other hand, have only participated in just four “major” finals, all of which were for the Portuguese Cup. They sought a 1-0 victory in 1966 against Vitória SC and lost their next three contests – two of which being against Port and the other being a 4-0 defeat in 1982 to the Sporting Clube de Portugal.

This is the first time Braga has ever made it to a European final. Before this year, they had only made it to the Round of 16 for the UEFA Cup in 2007 and 2009. However, neither Braga nor Porto have ever played in Dublin for a competitive game.

This is going to be a final that you don’t want to miss.

The first leg of the Europa League semi-finals takes place Thursday, 28 April. Benfica meets Braga and Porto meets Villarreal at 21:05. The final is expected to be held in Dublin this year and is just 20 days away on 18 May 2011. The second leg will head to Braga 5 May.

Benfica v Braga 1.50 – 6.25

These two teams are now the first Portuguese sides to meet in a club competition game in this semi-final opener for the UEFA Europa League. Benfica are undefeated since the start of the year in six Euro games – two draws and four wins. All three of their Europa League matches at home have been won but the club conceded once in all three. Braga have three consecutive Europa League draws. Braga have conceded two goals since entering the Round of 32 and have scored four in six games.

As they host Braga, Benfica realizes that the team they are up against is strong and solid in every aspect of the field. Nicolas Gaitan, Cesar Peixoto and Carlos Martins are all late fitness counts. Braga, on the other hand, has a full squad to work with aside from Paulo Cesar who is suspended.

With the fact that that Benfica have conceded several goals in their last games will be the furthest thing from their mind – but not so much for Braga as they will use this to their own advantage in hopes of grabbing a lead and keeping it on Thursday.

Porto v Villarreal 1.60 – 5.00

Villarreal will look to add a Europa League title crown to their title for the La Liga league and have won their previous 12 fixtures. While they have been deemed as clear favorites for this fixture, they don’t see it that way. In fact, even Porto sees them as the favorite and Bruno Soriano, a midfielder for Villarreal, has no idea why the opposing team believes they are the favorite as one team has just as much reason to be there as the other.

“I don’t know why they are saying we are favourites,” said Soriano. ”They’re a very good team and have as much right to be here as we do; they got here playing well, beating good teams in the process.”

As Portuguese champions, Porto are heading into this fixture on a 12-game winning streak after a 3-1 victory last Wednesday against Benfica. Villarreal, however, lost their third fixture in six matches Sunday when they fell to Sevilla 3-2.

This is Villarreal’s second appearance in a semi-final after they lost to Arsenal over two legs in the 2005-2006 UEFA Champions League final four. The club is undefeated in their previous eight matches with seven wins and a single draw.

According to some reports, Jose Maria del Nido will be supporting his very own Sevilla with its strong desire to remain in the Europa League. He revealed that his football club will stay in the big league despite the result of the match against Porto.

Del Nido explained: “It is true that the tie has got more difficult, and we can’t forget that Porto have the advantage from the first leg. But nobody is going to take away our desire to get through to the next round. It is a hard situation, but I’m sure that Sevilla will give every last drop of sweat in order to stay in this competition. The other day hurt, but we were expecting our opponents to be far superior to Sevilla. Despite the result, I have been given hope by knowing that they are not better than us. We showed on the pitch that we can win, and perhaps we are even superior technically to them. We have to show this in Porto. Nobody should think that Sevilla will throw in the towel.”

Reports revealed that Sevilla lost 2-1 at home in the first leg of the football club’s round of 32 match at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pijzuan. At the Estadio do Dragao on Wednesday, it should net at least a couple of times to make it to the last 16. But Sevilla President explained he will be supporting the football club with its serious pursuit to still be in Europa League. He said he believes that it will remain in the huge league despite of the Porto match.

Del Nido has been with the football club for some time and so was aware that it has the capacity to just remain in the Europe League. Back then, he can just say so.

Many supporters of the Italian professional football club Juventus were saddened by the confirmation on the club failing to qualify in the knockout stages of the Europa League this season. However, manager Luigi Del Neri said that he doesn’t consider the campaign of the club a total failure. He explained that his men did well in the league this season.

Del Neri said: “We can say that it’s a failure, since we haven’t qualified, but I don’t agree when people say that Italian football at European level has been downgraded. Juventus are out, but we are not diminished. I’d also say that Juventus has never been defeated. We haven’t won, but haven’t been defeated either. We should have the same level as far as the European performances are concerned. I won’t be talking about failure.”

Still, Del Neri will be proud of how his men did in the Europa League this season. And he explained that he will never regret letting everyone try luck in Europe.

Del Neri said in addition: “It’s not useless. I’m not talking about uselessness. I’m talking about the benefit of seeing players who play less often and are still part of Juventus. It’s very useful to face teams with important players such as Manchester City. This helps to understand our European matches in a different way. Each European match gives us a certain experience, no matter what the result may be.”

For some, men of Del Neri were not that good in the Europa League and that they must have tried harder to make it in the league. But for the manager himself, his men did well and he will be proud of how they did. Of course, it was his point of view as the one who managed the men back then in the famous league.

The popular sports betting firm William Hill has actually revealed the odds on Rafa Benitez’s departure just after the England-based team Liverpool was eliminated from the Europa League Thursday. Naturally, William Hill has opened a book on the departure of the well-known manager.

And the odds were 4/6 for the manager to leave Anfield before the next campaign begins. And there were also odds of 11/10 for Benitez to actually remain.

“Rafa’s Liverpool world has been crumbling slowly about him all season and he is now left clutching at straws with Liverpool 16/1 to finish 4th and qualify for the Champions League,” William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said.

Bettors might also want to bet on who will replace Benitez if ever. They might want to actually go for Jose Mourinho and Kenny Dalglish however there is still no book for who will actually be the next after Benitez and even odds.

But of course for now, it is not yet clear to us if Benitez will actually depart from the team. Yes, the release of the odds may be due to the elimination of the team from Europa League indeed by Atletico Madrid on the away goals rule and it may also make Benitez decide to leave the team. But then we don’t exactly know if it will.

We advise that we all should not expect anything, we even need to just expect the unexpected.

Despite a 2-1 victory, the England-based team was actually eliminated by Atletico Madrid on the away goals rule Thursday. According to news reports, the Uruguayan footballer Diego Forlan made the decisive blow that actually made Benitez’s men end up without a trophy for this season. Forlan played for Manchester United before and has been popular because of his being a part of the said team. But now, the Uruguayan is definitely trying to become well known for being one of the great men of Atlético Madrid.

At this point, Liverpool already got the recognition as current favorites to win the Europa League. Bookmakers opted to have the Anfield side as favorites so far.

William Hill is actually offering odds at 6/1 on Liverpool being the bagger of the trophy of the ever popular league. For the bookmaker, it is most likely a big thing that Rafa Benitez’s side will be entering the league after not making it at the knockout stages of the Champions League which has also been popular. Since 2002, it was their first time not to make it.

But Benitez is also 6/4 to separate from Anfield before the end of the campaign. While the Merseysiders are at 1/5 to win no silverware this season.

Despite beating Debrecen 1-0 on Tuesday night in Budapest, Liverpool decided to withdraw from the Champions League. Most likely, the decision was all because of Fiorentian defeating Lyon in the other Group E fixture to book their place for the last 16.

Shaktar Donetsk, on the other hand, also got acknowledgment for being second favorites to win the Europa League at a general 10/1. Good achievement so far after winning the league in its past format last year. And Roma can be back at 12/1, while Valencia at 14/1.

With 888sport, odds are at 20/1 for Everton to actually win the tournament that is known before as the UEFA Cup. They are presently second in their group though they were beaten twice by Benfica.

For sure, a lot of sports betting enthusiasts are now excited about what side can really dominate the Europa League. It is still for them to guess if what side will truly prevail. More or less, they can’t wait for long just to finally find out what side.
