US Open Favorite Revealed

Reports have confirmed that Serena Williams withdrew herself from the US Open this year because of surgery she had on her right foot. The No. 1 ranked and three-time champion had a surgery on her right foot to repair some cuts she obtained at a restaurant in Munich. And with the confirmation on Williams withdrawal from US Open this year, bookmakers decided to make defending champion Kim Clijsters the favorite with 7/2 to win the US Open 2010. Well, Clijsters has the experience and skills to win the event.

But surprisingly, former champion Maria Sharapova was also granted the best price odds of 7/2. The tennis player will most likely return in amazing form.

In the recent Cincinnati final, the two met and played against each other. Clijsters won in three sets. So far for this year, the defending champion recorded four wins on tour while Sharapova recorded two.

The No. 2 ranked Caroline Wozniacki might also be a tennis player worth supporting for bettors. She made it to the final last year but only lost to Clijsters. She was given odds of 11/1.

The No. 13 ranked Victoria Azarenka will also compete and might be worth backing for bettors after winning the Stanford Classic last month, beating Sharapova in the final. But bettors might consider her elimination in the first round at Cincinnati this month. Azarenka can be supported at 5/1.

If Williams did not withdraw herself from the US Open this year, she could have been the favorite for the big tennis event. But then, she has to make such big decision for her foot to heal. Naturally, it was more important for her to give time for her foot to heal than to play in the US Open. The problem might become bigger if she will pursue playing in the big tennis event, and she acknowledged this.
