Speculation Ends for McGrady Fans as He Signs with the Detroit Pistons

Tracy McGrady2While there was a lot of speculation regarding where LeBron James would sign, in the past several months, there has also been a huge amount of speculation of where Tracy McGrady would end up signing.

The 6-foot-8 swingman finally made his decision and ended speculation for all of his fans and the NBA teams that were hoping to sign him earlier this week.  The league minimum for a veteran player of 10 years or years is $1.35 million and is exactly what McGrady is signing for with the Detroit Pistons – a one-year contract worth approximately $1.35 million.

The 31-year-old came to a slow in his NBA career due to injuries but before that, he was known as one of the best basketball players in the NBA.  For the past two seasons, McGrady only appeared in 59 games for the New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets.  During the middle of the 2008-2009 NBA season, back in February of 2009, McGrady had to undergo left knee microfracture surgery.

McGrady is going to have some strenuous conditioning tests and strength exercises to undergo so that he can be a regular this upcoming 2010-2011 NBA season.  He has exactly what it takes to help the Pistons win a championship in the East, as he won both the 2003 and 2004 championships with the Magic.  He will definitely be good competition for the trio of the Miami Heat.  We will see if he can stand up to them.

He still has a long way to go though and he will likely be a back up to starters Tayshawn Price and Rip Hamilton but depending on how McGrady performs during training camp, he may very well be able to beat one of those guys out of their starting position.

The Pistons feel that McGrady is worth giving a chance and that is exactly what they are doing – giving McGrady a chance to prove that he still has what it takes to succeed in the NBA.
