Serena Williams Withdraws Herself from U.S. Open

Serena Williams is the top tennis player in the world and the U.S. Open event will be without this year.  The 28-year-old says that she is withdrawing from the U.S. Open this year due to still recovering from surgery that she had on her right foot to repair some cuts.

The three-time Champion and No. 1 ranked tennis player initially cut her foot while in Munich at a restaurant.  Apparently, the culprit was broken glass.  This happened not long after she had won her fourth singles title at Wimbledon last month and she underwent surgery on July 15.

With Williams withdrawing from the U.S. Open, she won’t be competing in singles or doubles with Venus to defend their doubles title they claimed last year in the event.  Venus has been out with discomfort in her left knee, but she is expected to participate in the U.S. Open starting August 30 in New York.

Williams is definitely upset about having to miss the U.S. Open as this is a major part of tennis career and will be the first ever Open that she has missed but the doctors have advised her to stay off the court so that her foot can heal properly.  This will definitely be affecting many people’s sports betting structure for the U.S. Open this year.
