Named after the famous twin spires of the Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, KY, TwinSpires is the online account wagering service of Churchill Downs Incorporated.

Using the latest internet technology, TwinSpires.com allows horserace fans to watch and wager on horse races not only happening at Churchill Downs but also from other racetracks through the use of streaming video and live racetrack video feeds.  Through the TwinSpires.com website, users can place bets, watch the races live, handicap races, and check race odds.   Basic track and weather conditions are also viewable from the site.

At TwinSpires.com, gamblers can open and deposit money into their own individual accounts to use for placing bets.  TwinSpires opens what they term an advance deposit wagering account (ADW) that allows them the manage funds on your behalf.

To place a bet, a user logs into his account at www.TwinSpires.com to place, confirm, and submit a wager.   Wagers are allowed up to $2,500 per transaction and are withdrawn from the accountholder’s account before submitting the wager.  If you win, the winnings are credited back to your account once the official race results have been declared.  Members can place bets up to post time and odds are updated every sixty seconds from the racetracks.

Accountholders can make additional deposits to their accounts in minimum increments of $25.00 either online or by phone.  TwinSpires.com also accepts the credit cards Visa and MasterCard for deposits.  Although not as common, personal checks for account deposits are also allowed.  In order to withdraw funds, the accountholder makes the request and the funds will be withdrawn within five days of the request.  Members can view their wagering history and balance online from the site.

TwinSpires.com is required to report any wings of $600 or more to the IRS and may withhold money for taxes if the amount won exceeds $5,000.00.  Winnings can also be transferred from a member’s account to his/her bank checking account.

A recent visit to the TwinSpires.com website indicated that Twinspires.com accountholders received additional tools to assist them in making their bets such as Insider Picks and Thoroughbred Past Performances documents.    This list of tracks offered by TwinSpires.com is very long, but some notable racetracks include Aqueduct, Arlington Park, Belmont Park, Calder Race Course, Churchill Downs, Del Mar, Hollywood Park, Saratoga, and Santa Anita.

TwinSpires.com also offers contests and promotions throughout the year during different meets across the country.  Now through November, players can play toward a leader board competing for the Grand Prize of an entry into the 2010 National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas.    One of TwinSpires.com’s recent promotions was earning five Twin Spires Club points for every dollar wagered on Emerald Downs racing on Friday nights.

As a player loyalty club, The Twin Spires Club offers rewards to members including free betting credits, golf clubs, Kentucky Derby tickets, and more.  Players earn four points per dollars wagered on CDI tracks and two points per dollar wagered on all other tracks that TwinSpires.com serves.
