NBA Commissioner Considers Looking at Possible Revenues From Legalized Sports Wagering

David SternNBA Commissioner, David Stern, has actually granted Ian Thomsen of SI.com an interview. And because of this said interview, some issues on legalized sports wagering have resurfaced.

One of the issues worth mentioning, has actually something to do with legal gambling being limited to Nevada. Stern indeed said to Thomsen that anti-gambling stand of sports leagues came in a different time and that now, US residents have actually changed. NBA just acknowledges these.

Stern indeed said, “I think that that league policy was formulated at a time when gambling was far less widespread — even legally”, and that “but having said that, it’s now a matter of national policy: gambling is good”.

Along the way, Stern was able to said some things about the position of NFL with regards to legal sports betting, setting aside the idea that such activity would in a way make possibility of game results corruption even greater.

Stern said that the threat for such possibility to be is just the same for both legal and illegal. But he then said, “buried within that threat there may be a huge opportunity as well”.

When asked during the interview about regulated sports gambling not being enough to protect NBA games while trying to produce new revenues for both the league and federal and state governments, Stern, without hesitation, gave a negative answer for the question. Most likely, future NBA leaders should consider looking at changing his answer. Thus, this goes without saying that these leaders should be at their best form to be able to do so. Certain things must be taken into consideration.

Stern considers looking at possible revenues from legalized sport wagering, revenues that might just be for the league and at the same time for federal and state governments. But naturally, if these possible revenues will turn into reality or not, this we all still don’t know.
