Issue Arising From Problematic Ban on Online Gambling
There have been some gamblers and even non-gamblers in the United States who really believe that there are absurdities in their country’s own gambling laws and policies. Thus, it is not surprising why for the past years, there have actually been issues arising from the said rules and policies. Just one example of which, that is indeed on the actual stage of arising, is the one specifically from the problematic ban on online gambling.
Last week, the popular Los Angeles Times, published a column by a national columnist named Michael Hiltzik. Many are surprised that it actually exposed the ridiculous hypocrisy and waste involved in the UIGEA Internet casino blockage.
Hiltzik is believed to have actually divulged the so-called “true nature” of U.S. law on online gambling which appears to be conflicting, confusing, and inconsistent for him. The national columnist pinpointed the international legal disputes made by seriously promoting a protectionist online gambling ban, and questioned why the six states believe that their legal land-based gambling is different when in fact they have laws against Internet gaming.
Hiltzik also tackled about the irregularities of the Wire Act which is by the U.S. Department of Justice, which the most notable among all is the something about the exclusion of sports betting in the coverage of the said act. It was said that DOJ seems to insists all online gambling as illegal but then in the contrary selectively enforces the rules that the act brings in.
According to Hiltzik, “certainly Internet gambling has its hazards, including the prospect of addictive playing and the enticement of minors”, and that, “but banning the pastime forces these problems into the shadows where they’re harder to address and makes it impossible to enlist the industry in helping to fight them”.
