Geoff Ogilvy to Join World Golf Championship Match Play

Geoff OgilvyGeoff Ogilvy, the two time winner and reigning champion, will be competing this week in the Golf WGC World Match Play in Arizona. He will be in the field to defend his title in a match play. It looks like he will not find it that hard to dominate the field as the World No. 1 Tiger Woods as well as World No. 3 Phil Mickelson won’t be around. The match play will not include two of the best golfers today.

But then, Ogilvy will still be challenged by some other best golfers these days. They might not be as great as Woods and Mickelson but they are really in great form, they can really deliver good performance.

Currently, with Boylesports, Ogilvy is at odds of 14/1 and will start his defense against Swede, Alexander Noren, with a first round clash.

While a joint favorite is also at odds of 14/1, it is Steve Stricker who made it in the same event way back in 2001. At the moment, he has already one tournament win, and now coming to Arizona in great form most likely to challenge Ogilvy.

This year, the competition in one of the biggest European events may be stiff though without presence of Woods and Mickelson. The others will make it stiff, just like Paul Casey, Henrik Stenson, and Martin Kaymer. They are indeed in great form, just ready to go home a winner.

Thus, though it seems that Ogilvy has already mastered how to win in the said event, he should still be on his senses when he plays. Woods and Mickelson won’t be around but the others who are also great in the field and at present really in great form would be to challenge him. He must still play wisely and of course carefully.
