Denver Broncos Sign Rookie QB Tim Tebow
We recently reported that there was speculation of Tim Tebow wanting more than receiver Dez Bryant received in his contract with the Dallas Cowboys simply because he was a quarterback – ultimately, the “want” is fair. The first round draft pick, 25th overall, got what he wanted – a contract worth more than Bryant. The contract ended up being a five-year deal worth $11.25 million with $8.7 million guaranteed and a maximum value of $33 million, which is based off of performance incentives, playing time, and more difficult goals such as playoff wins, Super Bowl appearances, and Pro Bowls.
The Denver Broncos began training camp with all the rookies this past Wednesday, but since no agreement had been reached and no contract had been signed, Tebow did not participate. He will join the rookies for his first practice work out session on Friday morning.
The entire team will began work out sessions on Saturday and Tebow is expected to join them. Tebow will join camp with the Broncos and compete with Brandy Quinn and Kyle Orton; however, it’s unlikely that he’ll gain a starting position. He’ll be more of a complimentary player while he learns the tricks of the trade.
Drafted in the first round out of Florida, the quarterback won not only a huge amount of football games while at Florida and a national championship but he also won a Heisman Trophy. While at Florida, Tebow set 5 NCAA records by throwing 88 touchdowns and for 9,285 yards during his four career seasons with the Florida Gators. He ran for 57 touchdowns and 2,947 yards.
