Corzine Still Part of a Court Challenge to the Legitimacy of Law Regarding Sports Betting
Governor Jon Corzine is still a part of court challenge to the legitimacy of a law about sports betting. To be specific, it is a law outlawing sports betting in most states in US. A federal judge has actually kept his right to be included in the suit.
The suit was actually initiated by the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association or the iMEGA and cited that the Federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act can be considered as unconstitutional.
The law, being effected since 1992, has been making gambling on sporting events illegal throughout US but in exemption are the states just like Montana, Nevada, Oregon, and Delaware. The said states had laws in the past that actually allow such activity. Thus, they have been exempted from the exercise of said law and can be involved with sports betting.
iMEGA and lawmakers of New Jersey believe that the law put barriers among states and tries to discriminate. Nevada can actually enjoy huge tax revenues from sports betting when others also in US cannot.
Some US attorneys would like to disallow Corzine from being a part of the suit as he could not be a legal authority then. However, US Magistrate Judge Tonianne Bongiovanni said that he can file a complaint for his inclusion to the suit.
iMEGA’s Joe Brennan said that their legal team wants to give the case a try and accuses the Department of Justice US with something like a black propaganda for the delay of the case’s hearing.
This issue regarding Corzine’s inclusion to the court challenge to the legitimacy of a law about sports betting will not die down pretty soon. The true battle has just started. But of course, sports betting can still continue in the four states in US. Business as usual for these states.
