An Overview of Odds for the FIFA World Cup 2010
For an entire month, June 11 – July 11, this year’s FIFA World Cup will take place in South Africa. It currently appears that Spain is the favorite to win the Cup this year.
The FIFA World Cup is the leading worldwide football tournament and this year will be the 19th event. The FIFA World Cup will the conclusion of a process that began in August of 2007, which consisted of 204 out of the 208 FIFA nationwide teams. Because of South Africa dominating over Egypt and Morocco, this will be the inaugural World Cup, which will be the first to be entertained by an African country.
Although they have never won a title, it is still clear that Spain is a favorite by many sports books to win the FIFA World Cup of 2010. Apart from Spain, a couple others to be on the lookout for are Brazil and Italy.
Brazil is a popular team as well and is the team that has the most title championships for this event, which is five. These five titles came in the years of 2002, 1994, 1970, 1962 and the first title in 1958. In addition to the wins, they have been runners-up twice in 1950 as well as 1998, taken third place finishes in 1938 as well as 1978, and one fourth place finish in the year 1974.
Italy is the next best bet following Brazil with 4 winning titles from the years 2006, 1982, 1938, and the first title coming in 1934. They were runners-up in 1970 as well as 1994, with a third place finish in 1990 and a fourth place finish in 1979.
Apart from the two teams above that have been able to secure championship Cup titles, there are only five other countries to be able to do the same. Germany has three titles, Argentina and Uruguay both have two Cup titles and France and England have a FIFA World Cup title.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup is going to be held in South Africa. The event will begin June 11 and end July 11. There will be a total of 32 teams competing at this year’s World Cup at 10 different venues with nine hosting cities through the country of South Africa.
