2010 Odds for the Heluva Good! – Edwards on the Pole, Stewart Favored to Win
This week, the Sprint Cup Series takes up to Watkins Glen International Speedway for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen. Saturday, Carl Edwards took the fastest lap in qualifying and won the pole award, which was his first for the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. Carl Edwards will lead the field for the start of the race.
However, although Edwards may have been the fastest and acquired the pole for Sunday’s race, Tony Stewart is the favorite to win. Stewart has won this particular event five times and for his career, has marked seven wins on road courses. He may be winless this Cup season but he has the attitude and experience to win. He will roll off on Sunday in sixth position and eight in point standings.
Another that has the skill on the road courses and is actually a road course specialist is Marcus Ambrose, who is next in line with favored odds. He has never won this particular event nor has he won an actual road course race but he also has the experience and skill to make his 11th place finish into at least a top 5 finish. He currently sits back in 28th position in the point standings.
Juan Pablo Montoya has never won this particular event but he does hold a win at a road course race. This season, Montoya has secured four top five finishes. He is currently 21st in the season’s point standings and will roll off on the second row in the third position.
While Jeff Gordon qualified right outside the top 15 for Sunday’s race, he is still considered a favorite to win – or at least he has high odds of finishing very well. Prior to Tony Stewart, he was the one that everyone would say would win the road courses because it seemed he was the master. However, Tony Stewart has taken over the role but it doesn’t change the fact that Gordon knows what he is doing on the road course. Gordon has had nine total wins on road courses in his career, which include four victories at the Glen. Winless this year with 10 top 5 finishes, Gordon sits second in the point standings and will roll off officially in 16th position.
