2009 British Open Betting Odds

The British Open Golf Championship has arrived once again. The championship is being held at Turnberry from July 16-19. With Tiger Woods vying for his fourth championship, the betting has never been fiercer. The Ailsa golf course, located in Turnberry, will give all players a run for their money. It is an extremely challenging course and it is never certain who will come out on top. 2009 happens to be the 138th Annual British Open Championship and it is sure to be just as exciting as the rest!

Obviously, Tiger Woods in the betting favorite. He is currently ranked as the number on golfer in the world and if he wins the 2009 British open it will not only be his fourth British Open win but also his 15th Major win in his career. Right now the betting odds for Woods to win are coming in at 9/4. The more exciting odds are placed on the players that are predicted to come in second, third, and fourth place.

There are still questions lingering regarding how Tiger Woods will perform. Many critics and bookies are claiming that he doesn’t have what it takes to pull off the win at the British Open seeing that he has given up two bids at other Major championships this year. Tiger feels the opposite. It was rumored that he was more confident than ever in his warm up rounds the preceded the opening day of the 2009 British Open.

One thing that is very different at this year’s British Open, compared to the Opens of the past years, is that Phil Mickelson will not be playing. When it comes to betting odds, Phil Mickelson has been favored second under Tiger Woods for the last several years in a row. In Mickelson’s absence, the bookmakers have placed Sergio Garcia under Woods. Garcia has still yet to win his first major and thus the odds of him winning are set at 22/1. Many say the odds are so high on Garcia because it will be almost impossible for him to win under the pressure of Tiger Woods. It is predicted that his only chance of winning a major is when he is playing in an Open in which Tiger Woods is absent.

Other big names are going to be bet on are Harringtion, with odds set 28/1, and McIlroy, also at 28/1. You can compare odds from various bookmakers in Oddso. It is obvious that Woods is the favorite hands down! Padraig Harrington, a golfer from Ireland, has won the British Open the last two consecutive years. Critics say that his level of play this year is far from strong enough to take the title three years in a row. Harrington has vehemently denied the claims of these critics and has boasted that his golf game is in the best shape of his life.

This British Open gives betters the opportunity to win big money if someone can overtake Tiger’s glory and place themselves at the top of the leader board! Can it be done? We will surely see! The 2009 British Open is a 4 day event in which the players score a full round of golf each day. The player with the lowest score at the end of the four day championship takes home the title!
